Snowflake Crystal, 2018

Commissioned work ŠKODA Auto

As Skoda takes its design inspiration from Czech Crystal work, Vikram had to deliver an installation that incorporates the same essence. The theme for Kalaghoda being ‘Elements of Nature’, Vikram drew his inspiration from a flake of snow, especially a feathery ice crystal, typically displaying its delicate six-fold symmetry. He created a metallic sculpture to resonate the feel of the otherwise industrial process of bending metal to make cars.

Artist note: It was a challenge to incorporate crytal work with the theme of Kalaghoda art fest being ‘Elements of Nature’, I had to find something that naturally crystallizes, something as delicate as a snowflake was made with mild steel.

It was an honour to be associated to work with the Czech Company that always supports contemporary artists with
initiatives like these and the prestigious Skoda Prize in the past.
